Connected, But Alone?
I would agree with Sherry Turkle’s
argument in Connected, But Alone.
People are more disconnected because of the overuse of technology for quick,
convenient and controlled communication. Personally, most of my 200 friends on
Facebook are practically strangers. We share stories, links to recipes, cute
animal videos, etc. Besides their individual political affiliations and food
preferences, I don’t feel like I know them or have a deep connection with most
of them. Furthermore, technology isn’t able to offer you that same personal
connection that you get with a face-to-face conversation. Deep meaningful and
fluid conversation is a rare occurrence.
I completely agree! There are friends/followers on social media sites that I haven't seen since middle school! It makes me feel kind of weird to think that there are people I don't know following me and watching myself and my family. But, on the other hand I think it's kind of cool to keep up to date on people that I haven't seen in years.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Thanks to social media we have "more" friends but we don´t really speak to them. In my case I have on Facebook people that I have classes wth But I have never spoke to them in person, I mean, when we see each other in the hallways we say "Hi" to each other but we have never even crossed words.
